Alice Gerrard, the pioneering old time and bluegrass singer widely recognized for her recording and performing work alongside Hazel Dickens during the 1960s and ’70s, is the subject of Tara Linhardt’s latest extended video interview.
Tara visited Alice at home in Maryland, and conducted this lengthy discussion in a two-camera shoot that runs to over 90 minutes. Anyone with an interest in Gerrard’s career will want to digest the whole thing, as will those curious about the folk and traditional music scene of the ’60s.
With a deep understanding of the music herself, Tara guides Alice through her career, spanning more than 50 years, and collects her observations on the times, the music, and the people she encountered along the way. She also recalls her time running the Old Time Herald, and staffing the Traditional Tent at MerleFest.
