Bluegrass festival for Kentucky Governor

When it’s time to celebrate, what could be better than a bluegrass festival?

That’s what the inaugural committee for newly-elected Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin thinks as well. They have invited some of the Commonwealth’s top bluegrass performers to help them celebrate following the Governor’s inauguration next week.

The Frankfort Welcome Party and Bluegrass Festival will be held on December 8 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the The Center of Kentucky History in Frankfort. Ricky Skaggs will headline the event, along with music from Larry Cordle, Don Rigsby, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Timber and Nails, and Kentucky Mountain Trio.

Kelly Knight, Inaugural Committee Chairwoman, says that this seemed like a great way to end Inauguration Day.

“After a day filled with ceremony, we wanted to cap off the evening with a fun, light event for the entire family. What better way to celebrate the Commonwealth than with a host of Kentucky musicians performing the very bluegrass and gospel music Kentucky is known for. This will truly be a special event.”

And Skaggs reports being delighted to help out.

“I’m so happy to see that the people of my home state have chosen a man like Matt Bevin to lead with principle and honor. I’m happy to be able to be part of the celebration that will begin this change.”

This event is open to the public. Information about the various Inauguration Day activities can be found online.
