Wildstone Media has announced a posthumous release of The Morning Glory War, a novel written by Mitch Jayne, well known to the bluegrass world as bassist with The Dillards for many years starting in the 1960s.
Mitch, recognizable for his omnipresent pipe, became familiar to a large US audience when The Dillards appeared on The Andy Griffith Show as the Darlin’ Family, mocked up as a hillbilly clan who occasionally came down from the mountain to cause mischief in Mayberry. On stage in their actual persona, he was the band’s MC, and his storytelling became a big part of their appeal at live performances.
Once he left the group in the late 1970s when hearing problems surfaced, Jayne focused on writing, with four books to his credit. He also wrote regularly for newspapers and magazines, typically on his beloved Ozark region in his trademark humorous style.
When he died in 2010 at 82 years of age, Mitch was writing another book, ultimately left unfinished. Working through the notes he had compiled, it has now been completed, and is available as The Morning Glory War.
The Morning Glory War is described by the publisher as…
…the story of the citizens of the bucolic hamlet of Morning Glory, Missouri who have lived life their own way for close to 100 years. It was the ‘town that never asked for anything.’ When government ‘progress’ threatened to destroy this peaceful and harmonious village, the dedicated and resourceful townsfolk decided to take matters into their own hands and declare The Morning Glory War.
The book is available for sale directly from the publisher online for $25.
It can also be purchased at Amazon in print or for Kindle.
