Scholarship available for Women’s Banjo Camp

Murphy and Casey HenryMurphy Henry has announced that scholarship assistance is available for her first-ever Women’s Banjo Camp, scheduled to run July 19-21 at the Courtyard Marriott in Winchester, VA. Instruction will be provided by Henry and her daughter, Casey.

Free tuition is being offered for one young female banjo picker between the ages of 8-22. The successful applicant will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging costs. A winner will be drawn at random on June 28, so interested lady five stringers are encouraged to apply by email as soon as possible.

In typical Murphy style, she explains the reasoning behind this camp.

“Why an all-women banjo camp? Because we want to do a women’s camp. We want to reach out to more women who play and get them playing together. Very few women come to our other camps and we want to create a unique event with an inclusive atmosphere where everyone will feel comfortable.”

Only 20 students will be admitted, and while all skill levels are welcome, absolute beginners with no knowledge of rolls or chords might be frustrated by the material to be covered.
