Photos from Pickin For A Cure

Event Details

Mike Kelly sent along this set of photos from this past weekend’s benefit concert for Phil Leadbetter in Knoxville, billed as Pickin For A Cure.

As regular readers are aware, Phil – a bluegrass veteran of many years’ standing – is undergoing intensive treatment for non-Hodkins lymphoma. Several benefit shows have been held to help both offset his medical expenses, and his living expenses while he is unable to work.

This most recent show was held at Knoxville’s Relix Theater and featured band and put-together group performances from Mark Newton, Jerry Butler and The Blue-J’s, The Darrell Webb Band, Skip Cherryholmes Quintet, The Phil Leadbetter All Stars (Sammy Shelor, Darrell Webb, Jim VanCleve, Gena Britt, Clay Jones, Junior Sisk, and Matt Leadbetter), Beth Lawrence, Chris Harris, Jason Tomlin and Justin Tomlin.

Another all-star benefit show is scheduled for April 1 at the Paramount Theater in Bristol, TN. This one will be a round-robin, grab-a-band event with top bluegrass artists combining in a variety of groupings. Set to perform are Dale Ann Bradley, Don Rigsby, Missy Raines, Jim Hurst, Tim Stafford, Jason Burleson, Larry Cordle, Michael Cleveland, Kenny & Amanda Smith, Steve Gulley, Kim Fox, Mike Bub, Gena Britt, with more names expected to be added before the show date.

If you would like to donate to the fund for Phil’s expenses, you may do so online.
