Matt Love to Deeper Shade of Blue

Deeper Shade of BlueDeeper Shade of Blue, an established regional bluegrass band based near Charlotte, NC, has announced the addition of Matt Love on bass. He brings many years of bluegrass experience to the band, having toured with Darin & Brooke Aldridge on banjo, and taught a number of bluegrass instruments at Ron’s Pickin’ Parlor in nearby Stanfield, NC. Matt grew up in a bluegrass family as well, and performed with them as part of The Hatley Family Band.

The band had survived nearly intact for 15 years before founder Brian Hinson decided to step down to deal with some unexpected family matters. Matt has been brought on to take his spot.

That leaves fellow founding members Jason Fraley on mandolin, Jim Fraley on banjo and Troy Pope on guitar. Frank Poindexter has been with Deeper Shade of Blue this past six years on reso-guitar. He is the uncle of the fabled Rice Brothers and quite a slide man to boot.

The guys are looking at getting back in the studio this year for a new album with the current lineup.

Here’s a video from last year, demonstrating their sound which the band describes as “Bluegrass to the Bone!”
