Justin Carbone CD out on Pinecastle

Pinecastle Records has just released a solo project for Justin Carbone, current guitarist and vocalist with Chicago-based Special Consensus.
Prior to joining Special Consensus in 2004, Justin was a member of 2nd Edition, a band he had founded in 1998 and which also featured Alan Bartram, current bass player with Del McCoury.

Justin’s new CD is entitled, Take Some Time, and contains 11 tracks – 3 instrumentals and 8 vocals – all but two written or co-written by Justin. In addition to Justin on guitar and vocals, Steve Thomas and Jeremy Garrett play fiddle, Ashby Frank is on mandolin, Mike Brubaker and Greg Cahill play banjo, and Alan Bartram plays bass – with Randy Kohrs playing dobro on two tunes and Josh Williams mandolin on one. Writing with Justin on this project were Becky Buller, Mike Brubaker, Ron Spears and Alan Bartram.

Justin says that the material is fairly personal for him, and he even recalled when most of the songs first came to him.

Nothing Left to Lose I co-wrote with Alan Bartram during the old days of 2nd Edition, and I wrote Take Some Time during my freshman year of college, in the middle of the night. The last track, Time For Moving On, I wrote with Ron Spears a month before I recorded. I told him I needed a driving tune to end the album, and I think we wrote it in about 20 minutes.”

“This was one of the most fun recording experiences I’ve had yet, because all the guys were great to work with, Steve Thomas is an incredible engineer, and I have a certain love for the material.”

Some audio samples are available on the Pinecastle web site.
