A rainy Saturday did not dampen the enthusiasm for the crowd at the 15th Nothin’ Fancy Festival. Local band, The Virginia Ramblers, opened the show with a mix of traditional and gospel favorites.
Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice filled in for the Moron Brothers who had an illness in the family. Junior always gives the audience a full measure of hard driving, traditional bluegrass music.
Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers always provide a strong show. They have gone from a local favorite to a nationwide draw in a relatively short period of time.
Nothin’ Fancy provided a special time when Chris Sexton brought his students to the stage to play with the band. Rhonda Vincent and the Rage always bring a top-notch show to the stage. Daughter, Sally Berry, filled in on vocals for the ailing Mickey Harris, bass player with the Rage. Mickey said that he is on vocal rest for a while. We all wish him the best and look forward to his singing return. Junior Sisk and Joe Mullins teamed up for a rousing rendition of Wild Mountain Honey.
Festival “boss,” Robyn Wines, says she is already hard at work on next year’s show.
