Remembering Miss Dixie Committee established in Nashville

Event Details

Miss Dixie Hall

Following her passing early this year, it has been revealed that prolific bluegrass songwriter Dixie Hall had left funds in her will for the establishment of an organization to assist institutions who are working to help young artists pursue bluegrass music.

It was her wish that the effort be known as the Remembering Miss Dixie Committee, and it was announced yesterday that Nancy Cardwell, Annette Kelley, and Melissa Lawrence Buck have been chosen to serve on the committee. All three were friends of Miss Dixie during her life, who worked with her on a variety of projects.

Cardwell says that more details about the Committee’s work will be announced in the near future, but that it will all serve Miss Dixie’s love for bluegrass.

“Miss Dixie was immensely successful at everything she tried—whether it was trick horseback riding, showing prize-winning Bassett Hounds, raising a million dollars for the Animaland rescue shelter, or her many efforts in the country and bluegrass music worlds. The Remembering Miss Dixie Committee is working to honor her memory by telling her story, and by supporting programs and entities that honor bluegrass, her favorite kind of music.”

Plans are being made now for events in conjunction with both the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and the International Bluegrass Music Association. An email contact list is set up now for those interested in announcements from the Committee. Anyone interested in being on this distribution list should contact Annette Kelley at [email protected].

No donations will be solicited or accepted for this endeavor. It is fully self-funded.
