We always expect big things from a star-studded outfit like Southern Legacy, chock full of future hall of famers like Josh Williams, Don Rigsby, Ron Block, Steve Thomas, and Mike Anglin.
And these guys do not disappoint with their new Pinecastle Records single, Bill From Isonville, a heartfelt tribute to his father written by mandolinist Rigsby. It always helps to come from good stock, which is exactly how Don describes his dad.
“I wrote this song as a tribute to my dear father, Bill Rigsby. Portraying a genuine good soul with rural country ethics, he loved everybody.
This is the embodiment of his hard-working, neighborly, loving character. It’s set to an upbeat hard driving melody and sung with soulful joy as we remember my dad.”
Southern Legacy’s previous single, The Hills of Carter County, made it to #1 on our Bluegrass Today Weekly Airplay chart, and we expect no less from this catchy, memorable number that tells of a diligent, faithful, and humble man who took care of his own business, but always had a helping hand for his neighbor.
Don sings this one with the emotion you know he feels for his father, with strong support from Williams on guitar, Block on banjo, Thomas on fiddle, and Anglin on bass. The chorus serves as a perfect introduction to Bill Rigsby, just as he might deliver it.
Have a listen.
