Huckleberry Records, a division of Turnberry Records, has announced the addition of The Country Gentlemen Show to its artist roster.
The band was formed in 2005 by Bill Yates, longtime member of legendary bluegrass group The Country Gentlemen, to keep their music alive following the passing of founder and vocalist Charlie Waller. For many years they performed as The Country Gentlemen Tribute Band, picking and singing selections from the vast catalog the original band had recorded over 47 years together.
Once Bill died in 2015, fellow Tribute Band founding member Mike Phipps realized that Bill would want them to keep going, and so he and Dave Propst did just that. More recently, as the group has developed a sizable following among bluegrass lovers around the country, they have expanded their offerings to add new material written and performed in the style of The Country Gentlemen, as well as songs from the classic repertoire, changing to the current band name, The Country Gentlemen Show.
Label head Keith Barnacastle says that they are delighted to have them on Huckleberry Records.
“We’re thrilled to welcome this outstanding group to the Huckleberry family. Their dedication to honoring the legacy of the Country Gentlemen while bringing fresh life to the music makes them a perfect fit for our label.”
The guys are currently finishing up a gospel record, which will be their first with the new label partner.
Reso-guitarist and vocalist Darren Beachley says that they all feel very comfortable in this new home.
“We are looking forward to working with Huckleberry Records, Keith Barnacastle, and the entire team there. We feel like they have the best label for new and upcoming artists, as well as established artists, and we are thrilled to be in the Turnberry/Huckleberry family. We trust them with our music!”
The Country Gentlemen Show consists of Mike Phipps on guitar and lead vocals, Lynwood Lunsford on banjo, Darren Beachley on reso-guitar, Wayne Lanham on mandolin and fiddle, and Eric Marshall on bass. Everyone in the band takes a share in the harmony singing, giving them a wide range of sounds.
