Since winning the 2025 Blue Highway Fest Rising Stars Challenge, youthful grassers Carolina Detour have seen their star rising high.
Huckleberry Records has signed this young North Carolina band, and when we say young, we’re not kidding. Bass player Elijah Bulman is the old man of the group at 22 years of age. His five bandmates are still in their teens, ranging from 14 to 16.
Their new single, No Wrong Turn, was written by 16-year-old Lake Carver, who plays fiddle with Carolina Detor, and her mom, Holly. It tells of a tough time for their family, when they moved back to Wilkesboro, NC after the pandemic, and found themselves living in a camper for six months before getting better established.
Lake describes the song, and the situation, thusly.
“We couldn’t be happier now. The road getting here wasn’t perfect, and mistakes were made, but we stayed positive and focused. No Wrong Turn reflects the journey that brought us back home.”
She is supported by fellow Detourers Malachi Bulman (16) on banjo, Lyla Cherry (16) on harmony vocals, Tae Childress (14) on mandolin, and Hudson Mikeal (14) on guitar. Elijah holds down the bass.

No Wrong Turn is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played.
