Don Rigsby tribute to Ralph Stanley

Don Rigsby is hard at work this winter, recording a tribute album to one of his chief musical heroes, Ralph Stanley.

Rigsby tells us that it will be called Doctor’s Orders, and be released on Rebel Records. He and Ralph picked out the material together, and the good Doctor will also appear as a guest vocalist.

Born in 1968 after the passing of Carter Stanley, Don grew up listening to the music of Ralph Stanley as a solo artist and bandleader, and it is to this portion of Stanley’s career that this album pays tribute.

“I love the Stanley Brothers but was far more influenced by the music Ralph made after the passing of his revered brother.”

Former Clinch Mountain Boys vocalists Larry Sparks and Charlie Sizemore will also join Don in the studio. This could be an epic record, and how wonderful that it is happening while Stanley can still participate.

Don promises to keep us updated as the project moves forward.
