Hats off to Steve Martin, who won the Best Bluegrass Album award yesterday (1/31) at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards for The Crow – New Songs For The Five-String Banjo.
It was a good day for banjo players overall at the Grammies – at least during the pre-telecast awards ceremony Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, when the awards of primary interest to the bluegrass audience were announced.
Béla Fleck took the Best Contemporary World Music Album (Vocal or Instrumental) award for Throw Down Your Heart: Tales From The Acoustic Planet, Vol. 3 – Africa Sessions, and Loudon Wainwright III won for Best Traditional Folk Album with his High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project.
Well done, one and all.
