Carter Family Fold in search of new Director

Event Details

Carter Family Fold

Legendary southwest Virginia music venue, the Carter Family Fold, is searching for a new executive director. Rita Forrester, the Fold’s longtime director and granddaughter of A.P. Carter, has decided to step aside from her management role in order to focus on health issues, as well as raising her granddaughter.

Forrester, who has been involved with the Carter Family Fold since its founding in 1974, has served as executive director for the past 22 years. A familiar sight to the guests who attend the Fold’s concerts every week, Forrester has had a hand in literally every aspect of the venue, from MCing performances to helping maintain the building and grounds. Although she is officially retiring, she will maintain her role on the Carter Family Fold’s Board of Directors.

For the locals who can be found dancing every Saturday night, as well as the visitors from around the globe who visit to experience the world of the “First Family of Country Music,” the Carter Family Fold is an uncommonly special place. While hers will certainly be big shoes to fill, the Fold is hopeful to find someone as passionate about southwest Virginia’s musical legacy as Forrester. The job is officially posted through the Crooked Road, an organization of music venues and festivals throughout southwest Virginia of which the Carter Family Fold is a part. According to the posting, a successful candidate will be comfortable with all aspects of venue management, including performances, fundraising, facility operations, and board relations, among other tasks.

Salary is not mentioned in the job posting, but it is a paid position, and money from the Scott County, Virginia Economic Development Authority, as well as state and private grants, are expected to help provide funding. Applicants are asked to email a cover letter and resume to [email protected].
