Kentucky’s Hammertowne has announced that banjo picker Brad Powers is leaving the band after two-and-a-half years. He has toured with them throughout this time, and laid down banjo on several cuts for their upcoming, as-yet-untitled album, including the debut single, That’s What Kentucky Means To Me.
His departure was necessitated by family commitments, primarily the fact that Brad’s three sons, all of whom are talented athletes, had schedules schedules simply couldn’t all align with touring. It was an obvious, if painful, choice.
Hammertowne guitarist and front man David Carroll sings Powers’ praises as he exits the group.
“Brad is just the best of people, and it’s always family first. You don’t replace a Brad Powers as a picker or friend. He brought so much to Hammertowne during his tenure, and we are all better for the relationship that we have built with Brad.
We are all sure going to miss his picking and his craziness. He’s just the best.”
Dave says that news about a new banjo player should be shared soon, and to be on the lookout for another single from Hammertowne in the coming weeks.
