Blue and Lonely from The Kevin Prater Band

Event Details

Kevin Prater Band

There’s a lot going on with The Kevin Prater Band as the summer season begins to wind down.

New music is coming out, and they have picked up a sponsor! Silverstone Hams of Mountain City, TN is giving away a ham for Thanksgiving, and the only way to enter is by attending one of Kevin’s shows, where you can fill out a raffle ticket.

Blue and Lonely is the latest single from the band, written by Richard Hefner of Hillsboro, WV, founding member of the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys in 1968. The story goes that Hefner figured that the band needed their own material, so he wrote some. Dalton Smith, guitarist and vocalist with Prater, counts Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys as a major influence, and brought this song to the band.

The band were able to play the song for Richard at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company in Maxwelton, WV, and he was delighted with how it turned out.

It’s a classic heartbroke and lonesome number, which Dalton delivers with just the right touch. Kevin is on mandolin and tenor vocal, Codie Allen on banjo and baritone vocal, Eb Saunders on fiddle, and Larry Cadle on bass.

Here’s video of the guys performing Blue and Lonely live in Maxwelton.

Check out Kevin’s web site to see where they will be performing, and get your entry in for a nice Thanksgiving ham.

Silverstone Hams also sponsors a weekly live bluegrass show on the Bluegrass Jamboree each Wednesday, streamed live from the Silverstone store in Mountain City from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
