Big news from IBMM

IBMMThe International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY has just won a major vote of confidence from the city government.

After a presentation this afternoon from IBMM Board Chairman, Terry Woodward, Mayor Ron Payne and the City Commissioners voted unanimously to fund a grant of $3 million towards a new International Bluegrass Music Center on the Ohio River in downtown Owensboro.

Plans are for the Center to house the museum, a 1,000 seat performance theater, a bluegrass-themed restaurant, and television and radio studios in addition to a museum gift shop and staff offices.

To qualify for the grant, the IBMM will have to raise $6.5 million on its own.

IBMM’s Danny Clark tells us that fundraising will begin in earnest over the next few weeks, with an eye towards opening the new Center in mid-2014. It will be located in the former State Office Building, just a few blocks from the museum’s current location.

We expect to get many more details about this ambitious project in the next day or so, and will share additional information at that time.

Congratulations IBMM!
