Stephen Mougin, Daniel Patrick, and Jana Mougin at Dark Shadow Recording
Dark Shadow Recording has announced the signing of singer, songwriter, mandolinist, and podcaster Daniel Patrick to the label. Daniel is the creator and host of the popular Mandolins and Beer podcast, and will soon begin work on a recording project with his new label.
Owner and chief engineer Stephen Mougin explained why he was drawn to Patrick.
“A couple of years ago, Daniel reached out to me to engineer Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, and Sharon Gilchrist on his duet record. I was knocked out by his singing, playing, and overall in-studio personality. I knew I wanted to find a way to continue working with him, and I’m thrilled that he is joining our Dark Shadow Recording family of artists. He’s got a stack of really cool new original songs and I can’t wait for folks to hear ’em.”
Daniel left his full-time job in 2016, dedicated to pursuing a career in music, taking every opportunity he could find to perform. He did so both to earn his keep, and to develop skills on his instrument, as a vocalist, and as a stage personality. The podcast came in 2019 and has since become one of the most well liked shows in the music category, even reaching Apple’s top ten list.
He says that he feels like he’s found a home with the Mougins.
“To say I’m excited to be part of Dark Shadow Recording is an understatement. From the moment I worked with Stephen in the studio, I knew that I had met someone who understood what I was trying to accomplish, and who was able to capture what I was hearing in my head. During those sessions I was able to see how much work Stephen and Jana put into DSR everyday. It was more than a label to them, it’s a family, and I am proud to be part of the Dark Shadow family.”
