WAMU’s Bluegrass Country is debuting a new program this evening, Home Town Special, which will air on Sunday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. (eastern).
Hosting will be Jay Bruder, who will focus on vintage music from the 1940s through the early ’60s. His interests are not limited to bluegrass, and the show will include country, rockabilly, Gospel, R&B, and other sounds that played a part in the Washington, DC area music scene in the post WWII era and the decades that followed.
The 24/7 online station describes their new host as part historian, and part musicologist.
Jay maintains an active set of contacts with music history researchers around the country and overseas. Jay has published articles in Blues and Rhythm magazine in the UK, and American Music Magazine in Sweden. He has contributed to a number of music reissue projects and frequently provides illustrations and fact checking services to the research community. Jay has made presentations on Washington music history to the Association of Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) of which he is a member.
Jay takes a special fascination in uncovering the forgotten links among performers, record companies, and song writers which changed the course of American music in the 1950s.
