Bluegrass at the Australian Country Music Awards

Event Details

Jerry Salley with Christy Cox after she won the first ever Bluegrass Recording of the Year Award from the CMAA (January 23, 2015)Bluegrass was front-and-center in last week’s 43rd annual Country Music Awards of Australia.

There have almost always been grassers picking up trophies, known as the Golden Guitars, at the ceremony, but 2015 marked the first time that Country Music Australia bestowed a specific category to Aussie bluegrass. And the very first award for Bluegrass Recording of the Year went to Kristy Cox for One Heartbreak Away album, from her Living For The Moment album, produced here in the states by Jerry Salley.

The record, and the winning song, combine the rhythms of bluegrass with a pop/country sensibility that clearly won over the voters from the CMAA. Congrats to Kristy for her historic award.

Mustered Courage clowning around backstage after winning a Golden Guitar for Instrumental of the Year from the CMAA (1/23/15)Mustered Courage also picked up a Golden Guitar for Instrumental of the Year with Candle Creek, the B side of their recent single, Kiss From A Rose. Well done boys!

Bluegrass acts were featured throughout the ten day Toyota Country Music Festival in Tamworth. I’m sure they did us all proud.
