Event Details

Kentucky Center for Traditional Music

The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University has asked us to remind current and prospective students that the deadline is fast approaching for their three scholarships especially for students in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Traditional Music program.

Three scholarships are available, and the deadline to apply for this year is April 15. Applications can be submitted online.

The big one is the Banjo and Bluegrass Music Scholarship Endowment in honor of Steve Cooley, which offers up to $15,000/year, renewable up to three years. Though it is designed for banjo players, the scholarship is open to anyone seeking either a degree or a minor in Traditional Music at KCTM.

Also offered are the Hal Rogers Traditional Music Scholarship, which provides one-year assistance for trad music students, through both cash awards and internships, and the Andrews Family Fund for Student Success, for high-achieving students with a GPA of 3.0 and above.

KCTM Director Daxson Lewis says that these awards can make a big difference for those in the program.

“These scholarship opportunities are a life-changing resource for those studying Traditional Music. We are deeply grateful to the donors who make this possible, and we are excited to support students who are passionate about carrying traditional music forward!”

Lewis says that a single application will qualify students for all scholarships for which they are eligible. It can be accessed online.

The announcement of these scholarship recipients will be made during the KCTM semester finale concert on April 29.
