Tony Rice workshop in February 2011

Tony Rice, that legendary recluse, has shared more of himself than perhaps he had in his entire career to date. His authorized biography, Still Inside, is a remarkably candid look at the life of this seminal stylist, and the personal, professional and technical struggles undertaken along the way to his stark redefinition of how bluegrass music and the acoustic guitar are played.

And now Rice will reveal these techniques to guitarists during the first weekend workshop devoted entirely to his style, The Ultimate Guitar Strummit. It will be held on the campus of Hollins University in Roanoke, VA February 12-13, 2011, and will feature a pair of workshops with Tony, plus sessions with a number of his celebrated protégés.

Wyatt Rice, Josh Williams and John Miller will also serve as instructors/moderators for this event, and registration will be limited to 45 students. That’s an awful lot of flatpicking firepower in one place!

In addition to the daytime instructional sessions, there will be a concert on February 12 with The Tony Rice Unit featuring Josh Williams.

Tuition fees range from $475 for the 2 days (including concert ticket) to $633 for the 2 days plus accommodations. Concert tickets for non-registrants are also available.

This will fill up fast, so anyone interested in attending had better hop to it. Full details can be found online.
