Tim O’Brien songbook now available

Tim O'Brien

Barcroft Books is pleased to announce the publication of The Tim O’Brien Songbook, a compendium of the many songs Tim has written and recorded over his long career in bluegrass and roots music.

Included are the melody and lyrics to 40 of his originals, plus guitar chords, and O’Brien’s comments about each song. These are songs he wrote for Hot Rize like Nellie Kane, Untold Stories, and Walk The Way the Wind Blows, plus ones he recorded on his own or were cut by others like When You Come Back Down, Look Down That Lonesome Road, Crooked Road, Cup of Sugar, and more.

The book gives a full two pages to each song, in a side-by-side format. On the left facing page you’ll see the lyrics alone, with chords represented in the Nashville numbering system, so that instrumentalists using capos can easily follow the chart with those playing in the actual key. Then on the right you’ll find a traditional songbook page, with the melody, lyrics, and chord names given.

The 104-page book is spiral bound so it lays flat on a table or music stand, and also includes Tim’s thoughts on singing and songwriting in separate chapters at the front of the book, following an introduction.

The Tim O’Brien Songbook can be purchased now from Amazon online for $39.95, or directly from Tim on his web site.

On Wednesday evening, May 20, O’Brien will be performing a special book release show at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville. He’ll perform 20 of the songs from the book with Shad Cobb on fiddle and Nathaniel Smith on cello. Other special guests are also expected to appear.

Ticket information is available online, and yes… Tim will have copies of the book on hand.

The concert will also be streamed live by Volume. Those $12.50 tickets are likewise available online.
