Playing the banjo is polite

Emily Post played the banjoAccording to USA Today, playing the banjo is polite. At least that’s what I take away from a story they are currently running concerning a new biography of Emily Post.

Emily Post is the author of the book Etiquette, first published in 1922. She wrote the book, literally, on good manners for several generations of Americans. And, it turns out, she was a banjo player!

Post played the banjo and often wore red shoes.

I’m sure wasn’t playing a forward roll and driving Earl’s Breakdown to the wall, but she played the banjo nonetheless. Probably dixie land parlor type tenor banjo.

Either way, Post’s status as a banjo player and the maven of manners should lend new acceptance to banjo players around the country, that is, if they practice good manners themselves.
