New Grascals CD in March

We just heard from Kristin Scott Benson with some great Grascals news. Their next CD is set for a March 30 release on Rounder.

“It’s tentatively titled The Famous Lefty Flynn’s, which is a song co-written by Jamie Johnson, featuring Terry Eldridge on lead vocal. This album includes mostly original material, including Satan and Grandma, written by Craig Monday and Chris Wallin, which we performed on the awards show at IBMA this year. We also did Last Train To Clarksville, by the Monkees, in a very bluegrass/Grascal way, that showcases the vocal trio all the way through.

My personal favorite is an old traditional hymn, that Jamie sings, called Give Me Jesus.

This album is the first that represents the new configuration, with me on banjo and Jeremy Abshire on fiddle.  Everyone in the band is really excited about the new project and we’re looking forward to the release.”

In addition to Jeremy and Kristin, the band consists of founding members Jamie Johnson and Terry Eldridge on guitar, Danny Roberts on mandolin, and Terry Smith on bass.

The Grascals are about to embark on a west coast tour next week that will take them through the end of January. They start in Lincoln, NE on Tuesday (1/19) and will play dates in Colorado, Idaho, Utah and Oregon on the way to five shows in California.

Their full schedule with show details is posted on the Grascals web site.
