AKUS to mark Simpsons quincentenary episode

The SimpsonsBluegrass music… it’s a powerful thing!

Earlier this week we were talking about pop chanteuse Adele and her fondness for bluegrass music, and now there’s word that animated dynamo The Simpsons has called on Alison Krauss & Union Station to provide the music for their 500th episode this weekend.

AKUS bass man Barry Bales tells us that they recorded the theme last year, and that it won’t be featured in the typical top of the show presentation.

“It will actually come sometime after the show has started. Not sure if they will use it as the outro as well.

We had a ball doing it – definitely a career highlight.”

The storyline has the uber-dsyfunctional family run out of Springfield by the town elders, after which they begin to live off the grid, survivalist style. This milestone episode, At Long Last Leave, will also include a cameo from Wikileaks antihero Julian Assange.

Tune in this Sunday (2/19) on Fox to find out if cartoon versions of Alison and the boys will make it onto America’s TV screens.

Here’s a little tease from Episode 500.
