When young Canadian county artist Cameron Nickerson switched lanes into bluegrass, he swerved hard. His debut in the genre, The Wagon, was released in March, and he’s already dropped a new single not included on that project.
The Nova Scotia native now introduces Coffee and Sleeping Pills, a driving bit of grass he wrote about working a job that doesn’t suit you, having to wake up early, and pounding so much caffeine to get you through the day that you need sedatives to sleep at night.
Cameron grew up in Yarmouth, mostly focused on rock and metal music, hence the head tattoos. But his dad and granddad played country and bluegrass, and that influence eventually won him over. His first two country albums won him rave reviews in eastern Canada, and he’s hoping for the same reaction in the bluegrass world.
Produced by Troy Boone, the new track features Nickerson on guitar and lead vocal, Adam Lackey on fiddle, and Boone on mandolin, banjo and bass. Sam Nickerson adds the harmony vocals.
