The Larry Stephenson Band has now released their second single with new label, Turnberry Records.
This time they’ve chosen Lizzie Lou, a bluegrass classic from Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, the famous Rocky Top writing team, recorded by The Osborne Brothers in 1973.
Larry says that he hopes that people enjoy his cut, and that it will be as popular with radio as his first Turnberry single, which hit #1 on our bluegrass gospel chart.
“You Made It Right was an incredible way to begin our relationship with Turnberry Records. The response from bluegrass radio exceeded our expectations, and we wanted the next release to continue celebrating the music that has inspired us throughout our careers.
Lizzie Lou is another great song from The Osborne Brothers catalog, and Sonny Osborne actually suggested years ago that I record it, but I never did until now. Sorry, Sonny!
I think he’d approve, and especially Derek Vaden’s wonderful banjo playing. The Osborne Brothers have always been heroes of mine, so it’s an honor to revisit one of their great recordings.”
With Larry on mandolin and lead vocal, and Derek on banjo, the track also features Jimmy Haynes on guitar, and Matt Wright on bass and harmony vocals.
It’s been said many times that Stephenson is as close as you’ll ever get to Bobby Osborne’s singing, so this is a very apt choice for him to cover.
See what you think.
Lizzie Lou is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played.
