Marty Raybon also has a new single this week, That Janie Baker, a song he wrote with John Fountain.
It will be included on his next Rural Rhythm album, The Back Forty, an all-bluegrass project due for a March release. Marty says that the title is a reference to 2013 marking his 40 years playing and singing music. Before he rose to chart-topping success in the country world as the lead singer with Shenandoah, Raybon worked the bluegrass circuit with his family band, American Bluegrass Express, performing hard-hitting bluegrass and Gospel music throughout Alabama, Florida and the rest of the southeast.
His after-country career in bluegrass is a return to where he started, the prime reason he calls his band Full Circle.
“My love for hard driving bluegrass music was fired up in the early 70’s when my Dad put in an old 8-track tape of Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys. The excitement in the music seemed to leap out of the speakers.
While writing That Janie Baker, John Fountain and I were not trying to reinvent the wheel; we were trying to recreate the excitement I felt over 40 years ago. ‘That Janie Baker is really something else!’ ”
