Thursday at the Milan Bluegrass Festival

Sugar Creek Bluegrass at the 2016 Milan Bluegrass Festival - photo by Bill WarrenThursday dawned bright and sunny at the Milan Bluegrass Festival. Ohio band Sugar Creek Bluegrass added the high energy of a group of young siblings to the sunshine. The energy continued with the old time sound of the Wayfarers.

Blue Highway then made its first appearance at Milan. The set was cut short by a sudden downpour that left the audience scrambling for cover. Mountain Faith moved their first set to the shelter of the nearby pavilion to the great delight of the crowd. The shower passed and events moved back to the main stage.

MC Blake Williams assisted Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association president Bill Warren in inducting the first honorees into the Association’s newly established Hall of Honor. Inducted were John Bayerl, Virgie McClearen, and John Morris. Further inductions will occur both Friday and Saturday and at the Auburn Hills Parade of Stars in September.

Mountain Faith returned to the main stage for their evening show and The Gibson Brothers closed out both the afternoon and evening shows. It was also their first appearance at Milan.

Friday brings The Crowe Brothers, Adkins and Loudermilk, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers. Becky Buller, and Dailey and Vincent to the Milan stage. Saturday features Hammertowne, The Trinity River Band, Breaking Grass, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, and Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out.
