We’ve written before about bluegrass artist and songwriter Laura Leigh Jones, who grew up in the music alongside her brother, Will Jones, who we all recall from his time with Terry Baucom’s Dukes of Drive, and is now pursuing a career in country music. The two were part of The Cana Ramblers, with their Dad and Rick Allred in the early aughts.
Well, Laura has a new single to share, one she wrote with Bill Whyte called Sun Can’t Stop The Rain, an upbeat grasser about heartbreak, and how even a sunny day feels like a wet one when your love is gone.
She shows off her strong vocal chops, supported by Justin Moses on guitar, banjo, and bass, with Sierra Hull on mandolin, and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Sierra and Laura were roommates several years ago, and have shared music together in the interregnum.
As you might imagine, they give the song a smooth, radio-friendly feel.
Give it a listen.
Sun Can’t Stop The Rain is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via Get It Played.
