The winners of the competitions at the 77th annual Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax, VA have been announced.
It’s always fun to see who wins and places in the 21 vocal, instrumental and band categories at Galax, and we were especially pleased to note that two young banjo pickers who were profiled recently at Bluegrass Today took the first two spots in bluegrass banjo.
Top prize went to Brandy Miller, who Lee Marcus introduced to us a few weeks ago, with second going to Andy Lowe, who plays the five with Rockford Express, whose debut CD we showcased last week.
Among young winners we also see that Lucas White, Tony Rice protege and the subject of the short film Fanning The Fire, picked up 4th in guitar. Also Corey Piatt, teen mandolinist with Kenny & Amanda Smith, took 5th in mandolin.
Congratulations to all the winners. You can see the complete results on the Old Fiddlers Convention site.
