The Power and Glory from The Kody Norris Show

The Kody Norris Show

Rebel Records has another new single for The Kody Norris Show, just in time for Memorial Day, taken from their upcoming America 250-themed album, Spirit of America.

If you’ve seen anything from this bunch in 2026, you know that they have gone whole hog for a patriotic vibe in this, the 250th anniversary year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. With star-spangled stage attire and a string of flag-waving singles, Kody and the gang are leaving no doubt how they feel about this semiquincentennial celebration.

This latest is The Power and Glory, a grassy revisit to a Phil Ochs folk song from 1964, sung by mandolinist and fiddler Mary Rachel Nalley Norris.

She says that she had an idea about this one before pre-production for Spirit of America began.

“When the idea of an America250 celebration album came about, we had a pretty good idea what most of the material would be. However, we still wanted to look at outside songs that may have slipped by us throughout the years. This was one of those as it dates back to the mid-sixties by Phil Ochs!

When we sat down to rehearse for this album, I envisioned this song in a little different format, with me singing lead and then hopping to the harmony line on the chorus. Kody put the arrangement to it and bam – we had us another song for the album!”

Kody is on guitar, with Mary Rachel on mandolin, Jim Hensley on banjo and harmony vocal, and Charlie Lowman on bass. Jason Barie provides guest fiddle and Gregg Lohman adds percussion. They turn it into a perfect Kody Norris Show number in their inimitable style, without a touch of the cynicism of Ochs’ original.

Give it a listen.

The Power and Glory is available now from popular download and streaming services online.

Pre-orders and pre-saves for Spirit of America are enabled as well ahead of its June 26 release.
