Appalachian Road Show has taken on the responsibility of being the host band at the two annual Gettysburg Bluegrass Festivals, May and August. So they are trying to bring a little something extra to the stage each time.
One year they brought Darrell Scott out for a show with the band, another was an all-star jam. They have yet another in store for next weekend.
County star Skip Ewing, who grew up playing his share of bluegrass, will be included in a Road Show set at Gettysburg on Saturday night. He’ll join the band for some classic grass as well as some of his hits, and perhaps some music from Ewing’s upcoming project, Dragonfly, set to release this fall.
Jim VanCleve, fiddler with the Road Show, says that he has known Skip for a long time, and has the highest respect for his musicianship and songwriting.
And Ewing himself is looking forward to this new challenge.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jim [VanCleve] many times over the past several years, both on stage and in the studio. I’m a huge fan of his talent, and of ARS. When he called to ask me if I would play Gettysburg with them I was surprised and delighted. Weaving their musical and vocal talents into new music and hits I’ve written for myself and other artists is unique and exciting!”
