Single mic contest at the Oakdale Spring Bluegrass Festival

Oakdale Spring Bluegrass Festival single mic contest

The Spring Bluegrass Festival held at the Oakdale RV Resort & Motor Court in Glen Rose, TX is still accepting applicants for their Single Mic Contest, offering cash prizes and a chance to perform on the Fall Festival later this year.

The spring festival will run February 26 to March 1, with the competition held that weekend. The rules are simple: a single microphone will be placed on stage, and all contestants will have 15 minutes to perform acoustically before that microphone. There are no style requirements, but this is a bluegrass festival, and the audience will help with the judging, so one expects that bluegrass artists or groups will predominate.

Competitors will be judged in two categories: Pro, for artists playing eight or more paid gigs in a year, or Novice for those playing less than eight. This is done to ensure that contestants are judged against their peers. The winner in each category will be extended an invitation to play on the Fall Bluegrass Festival, and share the stage with Rhonda Vincent.

Cash prizes of $600 for first place and $300 for second are offered in the Pro category, and $350 and $200 in Novice.

To be included in this month’s event, simply send along your name, the name of your group, a contact phone number, and an email to the festival by email.

Good luck!
