Red Rocking Chair from Fiddle Express

Event Details

Fiddle Express

Gravy Records has a single to share from their entry in the sibling bluegrass sweepstakes, the Beck teens from Idaho who perform as Fiddle Express.

The band name comes from the fact that all three are skilled with a bow, though they don’t all play fiddles on their stage show at once. But outside of bluegrass, they all perform as members of the Boise Philharmonic Symphonic Youth Orchestra.

On this new single, an arrangement of the old time classic, Red Rocking Chair, Eliza (19) sings the lead and plays guitar and fiddle, Andrew (16) plays mandolin, and Rachael (18) plays fiddle. All three join in on vocal harmonies, and Jesse Blue Eads joins them on bass.

Producer Dave Maggard, who owns Gravy Records and the Sound Biscuit Studio, explained a bit about how they selected this track for the first single.

“When it came down to it, Red Rocking Chair was the perfect choice. This song has been a long time classic favorite in many genres, and has lent itself to many interpretations, I knew it would be a fun challenge for Eliza, Racheal, and Andrew to make it their own with a refreshing spin, instrumentally as well as vocally.”

They open with a slow, sombre vibe, using mournful twin fiddles, before launching into a more uptempo rhythm.

Check out their take on this familiar standard.

Red Rocking Chair from Fiddle Express is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct and Get It Played.
