Pinto The Wonder Horse video from Chris Jones

Event Details

Chris Jones & the Night Drivers have released a new music video, recorded live during a June 4 performance at Randy Wood’s Old Time Pickin’ Parlor in Georgia.

This time it’s a bluegrass cover of a Tom T. Hall song from the ’70s, Pinto The Wonder Horse Is Dead, recalling the cowboy movies of the 1920s and ’30s. In those films, the cowboy’s main companion was always his trusty steed, a trope long parodied in comedy skits and films.

Hall’s story tells of the fictional news of such a film personality, who were often nearly as big a star as their singing cowboy sidekicks.

Chris had included of his version on his current Mountain Home Music album, Run Away Tonight. He says that the song takes him back as well.

“This song was on one of the first Tom T. Hall records I ever heard, when I was in my early teens. I’ve always loved the song.”
