Phil Leadbetter update

We caught up yesterday with Phil Leadbetter, resonator guitarist with The Whites, and reso raconteur at large. He has spent quite a career in bluegrass, including lengthy stints sliding around with JD Crowe & the New South, Wildfire, and Grasstowne.

Phil is making plans now to start work this spring on a new solo project for Pinecastle. He said that he is in the early pre-production stages, choosing material and musicians, but promised to let us know more details soon.

This looks to be a transition year for Leadbetter…

“I have cut back somewhat on my road schedule to be in town a little bit more. I have really missed seeing lots of my friends that I normally get to see each season, but I have really enjoyed being home more this past year.

I’m getting geared up for the 2011 season with The Whites – really having a ball getting to play with some of my musical mentors. Our first festival of the 2011 season will be at the Joe Val Festival in Framingham, MA on Saturday, February 19th. I have played that festival quite a few times, but I’m really looking forward to playing there with Buck and the girls.”

Phil will also be leading a Master Resonator Guitar class at Joe Val on Friday, February 18th. It is scheduled to be a 4 hour session for intermediate to advanced pickers, and anyone interested in attending should contact him by email.

Teaching has become more of a focus for Leadbetter since he has decided to stay closer to home.

“This past year I built a teaching facility at my home, and I have been spending a lot of time giving private lessons as well as web based lessons.

I’m very excited about 2011. Hope to see all of you guys soon!!”
