Jimmy Gaudreau

Jimmy Gaudreau hasn’t toured since the COVID-19 pandemic, but that certainly doesn’t mean he’s no longer thinking about music. He has recently launched a new web site where fans can peruse any and all things Gaudreau. The site features a biography, lengthy discography, information about his instruments, a wonderful photo gallery, video links to past performances, and more.

Gaudreau has been showcasing his musical genius since starting his professional career with the Country Gentlemen in 1969. Having performed with a who’s who of artists ranging from J.D. Crowe & the New South to the Tony Rice Unit, Country Store, Spectrum, Chesapeake, and others, his musical stylings have influenced countless players throughout his storied career.

While viewing his discography, I couldn’t help but smile as I thought about all the iconic projects he has been on. He’s featured on Crowe’s Live in Japan and My Home Ain’t In the Hall of Fame, among others. He’s also on Tony Rice’s Me and My Guitar, Native American, and Plays and Sings Bluegrass, as well as several other records. He has been featured on solo projects for Richard Bennett, John Starling, and Bill Emerson, among many others. I haven’t even gotten to the multiple albums he recorded with the Country Gentlemen!

With that kind of track record it’s a wonder why he isn’t in the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. To all voting IBMA members, please consider this my official plug.

Another highlight of the web site is a feature about Gaudreau’s instruments. With photos of each of his mandolins, as well as extensive background information and personal stories about each one, there’s plenty for a fellow mandolin player – or anyone interested in instruments, really – to dive into. One of the most interesting is the early Gibson A-model he acquired in 1975 from J.D. Crowe for $50 – make sure to check it out.

It’s fantastic that Gaudreau has a web site and a way for musicians and fans to learn more about him.

Check him out online.
