New CD from Jim and Valerie Gabeheart this fall

After losing bass player and vocalist Corey Hensley to Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Jim and Valerie Gabehart have regrouped and are putting the finishing touches on a new project, It’s My Turn, recorded at Steve Thomas’ Gain Train Studios in Nashville.

Joining Jim (banjo) and Valerie (guitar) are band members Joe Vance (bass) and Brandon Shuping (mandolin). All four share in the vocals, with Valerie taking the leads. Rob Ickes guests on dobro, as do Jason Carter on fiddle, and Steve Thomas on fiddle and guitar.

The new CD should be finished in September, and the Gabehearts will have it available at their booth during the IBMA World of Bluegrass. Their original plans had been to start tracking last September, when in late August ’09 they got a telephone call from then-primary male vocalist Corey Hensley with news that he had accepted the job as guitar player and lead singer for Doyle Lawson. After finding their current bass player and getting him up to speed, recording began in February ’10.
