Jim Mills to fill in for Crowe

We have learned that power picker Jim Mills will be filling in this weekend for JD Crowe. As we reported last month, JD fell last month exiting his tour bus, and broke his left arm in two places.

Jim has trimmed down to his ideal fighting weight, and should be in top form to assume such a prestigious banjo chair with The New South.

Mills will sub for Crowe on a number of other dates this season, both with The New South and on shows with Doyle Lawson and Paul Williams in support of the project they recorded with JD, Old Friends Get Together.

One can’t help but be disappointed finding JD Crowe missing from a JD Crowe & The New South concert, but be assured that you will still witness some mighty fine picking with Jim Mills sitting in.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. – We just got an update from Mike Drudge, booking agent for The New South. He tells us that Crowe’s therapy is going very well, and that he’s more optimistic about being able to play again by early summer.

Great news!
