Fast-rising artist Bronwyn, the monomymous performance identify of celebrated bluegrass fiddler, vocalist, songwriter, and bandleader Bronwyn Keith Hynes, has released a third single from her upcoming album, Rattlin’ Bones.
The bluegrass world knows her well from time with the eclectic Boston-based Mile Twelve, and the hard-charging Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, giving her high career visibility and the confidence to go it alone.
The single conjures up images immediately recognizable to anyone who spent time in the trendy and artsy East Nashville neighborhoods, and is titled Gallatin Road, written by Bronwyn and country songwriting legend Pat McLaughlin.
Bronwyn says that idea came from a discussion about the familiar local traffic artery.
“This song was born out of a conversation I had with some friends about Gallatin Road in Nashville. They had recently moved to town and were remarking on how crazy the energy was on that road in particular. I think one of us said, ‘Anything goes out on Gallatin Road.'”
That became the hook line, and the rest is what tumbled out in a session with McLaughlin.
Support on the track comes a studio band of Nashville heavy hitters. Bronwyn sings and fiddles, with Bryan Sutton on guitar, Wes Corbett on low-tuned banjo, Dominick Leslie on mandolin, Dennis Crouch on bass, and Miles Miller on drums. Harmony vocals are supplied by Nashville’s own country/soul music sensation, Timbo.
This song doesn’t celebrate the glitzy, glamorous side of Nashville, what the travel agents and tourist bureaus depict, but something a bit seedier and reminiscent of “old Nashville.”
