Friday was a busy day at Fan Fest, with big names on stage and fans, pickers, and everything in between roaming the Nashville Convention Center from early morning ’till the crack of dawn.
Woody Edwards was crawling the halls capturing images from one corner to the other. He spent some time Friday night at the Bourgeois Guitars flatpicking show, where Bryan Sutton reintroduced his 1995 Slope D model Bourgeois. The guitar, affectionally known as “TheBanjo Killer,” had been severely damaged in the storied Nashville flood of 2010, and has only now been reunited with its owner.
Dana Bourgeois told us yesterday afternoon that he had to let the guitar dry out in a climate controlled area for two full years before attempting a reconstruction, followed by mold abatement, repair and a finish overspray. Noted Japanese luthier and restoration specialist Shin Ichikawa had been enlisted to assist on the project, and he was on hand last night to pick a few with an all-star panel of flatpicking monsters.
