Lorraine Jordan and her Country Grass Band have given another taste of their upcoming Country Grass II album, set to release later this year with Pinecastle Records.
Many readers will recall Jordan’s 2015 project with her all-bluegrass outfit, Carolina Road, simply dubbed Country Grass. It matched a number of country hit-makers with a bluegrass band for a memorable record of country chart-toppers performed in a bluegrass style.
In the intervening years, she has created a band to play those songs and others, calling them the Country Grass Band. They have just announced a regular touring status, giving Lorraine one more business to run from her headquarters in Garner, NC.
For this next single, she has chosen a John Conlee country classic, Friday Night Lights, played by the Country Grass Band. The new album will feature some guest artists, but this one is fully self-contained. Guitarist Allen Dyer sings the lead and offers a different vibe on a song that so many people know well.
It tells of a married couple with different ideas of a fun Friday night. Tired after a long week, he wants to relax at home, while she, bored after being stuck at home for days, longs for the excitement and camaraderie of a dance hall.
Lorraine says that she has high hopes for this release.
“I have always loved John Conlee songs, and Friday Night Blues is the perfect song to be a Country Grass song. It fits with bluegrass instrumentation and harmonies.
This song goes over so well with our bluegrass fans at our shows. It’s a feel good song with a special meaning, and I hope our bluegrass radio stations will enjoy playing it.”
With Dyer on guitar and lead vocal, the Country Grass Band supports hime with Kent Dixon on mandolin, Garrett Newton on banjo, Tim Tew on guitar, Matt Hooper on fiddle, Duncan Stitt on reso-guitar, and Jordan on bass.
