Devil’s Got a Hold On You video from The Sullivan Sisters

Event Details

The Sullivan Sisters

For their second national release with Dark Shadow Recording, Chicago’s Sullivan Sisters have produced a music video for Devil’s Got a Hold On You.

The sisters are Luciya and Soraya Sullivan, on banjo and guitar, respectively. Both still teens, they show a skill and comfort with bluegrass and old time music of people much older and more experienced.

Devil’s Got a Hold On You tells a story of a young woman whose true love takes to drink, which horrifies her in her innocence, and elicits the response in the song title.

Luciya explains how it came to be.

“I wrote most of this song one night in my room over the winter last year when I had first started experimenting with my new Deering Vega Vintage Star clawhammer banjo. I brought the song to Soraya when it was almost done and she helped finish it.”

We hear (and see) Luciya singing the lead and playing banjo, with Soraya on guitar and harmony vocal, and their touring band in support. Finnegan McGuinness is on fiddle, Gabe Zinser on mandolin, and Sammy Mougin on bass.

Have a look and listen.

Devil’s Got a Hold On You is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.

The Sullivan Sisters are finishing up work this summer on a debut album with Dark Shadow Recording, which is expected to be released next year.
