Dede Wyalnd wins big at The Wammies

Last night (2/28) saw the presentation of the 24th annual Washington Area Music Association awards at the at the historic State Theatre in Falls Church, VA.

This organization exists to highlight the diverse and robust professional music scene in the DC metro area, and among the musical forms recognized each year is bluegrass. DC has a rich history in our music, giving birth to such stellar acts as The Country Gentlemen and Seldom Scene over the years, and continuing to nurture new acts to this day.

Dede Wyland took the bulk of the awards in the bluegrass category, winning as Bluegrass Vocalist, Bluegrass Duo/Group (Dede Wyland, Randy Barrett and Mama Tried) and Bluegrass Recording (Keep The Light On). Mike Auldridge got the nod for Bluegrass Instrumentalist.

In the Folk category, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer won for Folk-Traditional Duo/Group and Marcy won for Folk-Traditional Instrumentalist. The reissue set, 50 Years Of Folk from New Lost City Ramblers was chosen as Folk-Traditional Recording, and Grace Griffith as Folk-Traditional Vocalist.
