Mike Kelly was kind enough to send a few of the photos he shot on Saturday when the Bluegrass Album Band and some loyal fans braved the rain for a reunion show at the Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass Festival.
The weather was wet and drizzly all day for this free, community event, but roughly 3,000 bluegrass lovers stuck it out to see J.D. Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Bobby Hicks, and Todd Phillips reprise their historic roles with the band that redefined contemporary bluegrass in the 1980s. Tony Rice, the band’s founding guitarist and vocalist, was unable to make the show owing to ongoing health issues, but Rickey Wasson from American Drive was on hand in his stead. Phil Leadbetter also joined the band on resonator guitar.
