Blue Highway back in the studio

Tim Stafford checked in this morning with news about the next Blue Highway CD.

“We started our 9th studio project – not counting compilations – this week at Maggard’s Studio in Big Stone Gap, VA, where we’ve worked on the last three recordings with engineer Jim Price and Alan Maggard. The band decided to do the album a little at a time, so we worked up 6 new tunes to start, all originals. The plan is to have something of a theme or concept record this time, revolving around a great song of Shawn Lane’s which we cut today. It’s called Sounds of Home, and is more than likely the title track, and it’s just a great song, easily one of Shawn’s best (which is saying a lot).

So… there will be other ‘sound’ songs on the record, and maybe a few matching sounds too. For example, we’ve cut a tune of mine and Craig Market’s called Bluebird Days, while Shawn has songs called Storm and Ain’t Gonna Lay My Hammer Down. Wayne Taylor has a couple of very cool numbers we haven’t started tracking yet.

We’re looking to finish the record around the first of the year and release it in 2011 on Rounder. Stay tuned…”

Will do – can’t wait.

Tim has already had a busy year. His duo project with Steve Gulley, Dogwood Winter was released this summer, and his Tony Rice book (co-written with Caroline Wright) came out in the spring.

Oh… and he announced his engagement to Alecia Nugent in August!
