Thursday broke sunny and warm at the Brown County Bluegrass Festival. Promoters Edgar Loudermilk, Lorraine Jordan, and Allen Dyer welcomed everyone to the show. Terri Grannis is holding the MC slot. A former teacher, she warned the crowd: “Don’t make me use my school teacher voice!” Lucy and Luke Lindblom are handling the sound.

New Mountain Heritage opened the show. They are an Ohio band with a long history who also were Tuesday evening’s entertainment for the bean supper.

Won Peace is also an Ohio Valley band that is a favorite at Brown County. They present a mix of bluegrass and gospel music. Lorraine joined them for a tune.

Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road have over 25 years touring the bluegrass circuit. Known as the “Lady of Tradition,” her band presents good traditional bluegrass along with a healthy dose of “country grass.”

Sammy Shelor has fronted the Lonesome River Band since 1991. The band continues to be one of the best in bluegrass. Sammy ended the set with a tribute to the great Allen Mills. Sammy said of Allen: “He treated me like a son – and sometimes talked to me like a son – good and bad!” Allen was, and is, a beloved member of the bluegrass community.

Hammertowne closed out the day as only they can. They are in demand at many festivals. David Carroll is one of the top songwriters in the genre.

Friday and Saturday promise top flight entertainment. Those appearing will be Lorraine Jordan, Kauffman Road, Catahoula Drive, Junior Sisk, Edgar Loudermilk, Harbourtown, Caleb Daugherty, and Authentic Unlimited.

Head for Georgetown, Ohio for some good bluegrass music!
